paging dr. arthur...
guess who got accepted to the phd program in epidemiology at u of t? if you said "you" meaning me, you get a gold star. if you didn't... we need to have a talk. ok ok. before this gets blown out of proportion, i'm not sure that i'll be accepting. what i do depends on two very important things:
1. the projects dr. mcgeer (my potential supervisor) has for me to work on. she was one of the major players in the whole sars situation & she's the director of infection control at mt. sinai, so she likely has some neat ideas and lots of funding. which leads to my next point...
2. how much cash we're talking about. i mean, getting educated is all well & good, but i also need to be able to live!! at u of t, all phd students are guaranteed a minimum amount of funding from the school (about $19,000/yr), but most get more depending on how much their supervisors are able to contribute. has anyone tried to live in toronto & go to school full-time on $19,000 a year? yeah, i didn't think so.
but on the plus side, i do have two whole weeks to decide the next few years of my life. phew. good thing there's no rush.
