totally useless information
i heard in the summer that the flashing beacon on top of the canada life building held the secrets to forecasting the weather in toronto (well, i was actually told the TD building, so i wasted a week staring at that completely useless piece of architecture). just when i sort of thought i knew what was going on, robin clued me into this little blurb from last week's now:
"What do the different patterns actually mean? Green = clear; red = cloudy; flashing red = rain; flashing white = snow. Lights running up = getting warmer; lights running down = getting colder. "
absolutely none of that information seems practical to me! i was told that the lights moving up or down represented the barometric pressure - which would actually be useful information! i can look out of my window & tell you if it's raining, snowing or cloudy, and based on the time of day, i bet i could tell you if it was getting warmer or colder. i recall one day in the summer being able to tell when the smog had lifted by the clarity of the cn tower out of my window. i submit that the cn tower is a better tool for interpreting the weather than the stupid canada life beacon.
