extraordinary

i found myself daydreaming yesterday about, of all things, sunday movies on tv. you know... movies that you can watch a million times, and you'll still say "oooh!" when you see it on tv. movies like 'the breakfast club', 'sixteen candles' or 'ferris bueller's day off'. i haven't had a lot of lazy sundays lately (or lazy other days, for that matter), and i don't see any looming on the horizon. siiiigh, guess those repeats will just have to wait.

this saturday was the long awaited "three hunks" bill at hugh's room... matthew barber, peter elkas and joel plaskett. i'll just say this about matthew barber: watching him is like eating an apple before an ice cream sundae. it's fine, but in no way exciting, and you just want the sundae already!! speaking of things you just want, i've never had "the feelings" for peter elkas before, but when he sang turn out the lights... hot damn! also worthy of mention: pete has gotten himself a looper pedal, and i'm glad he did.

joel himself was in fine form on saturday. having slept until 2 pm, he was most definitely bright-eyed, and in a fantastic mood. he played a two-hour set with tons of old favourites, and a generous helping from la de da, with a little help from pete on keys, guitar, and harmonica at times. funniest moment: when his set ended, and he was sort of lingering awkwardly at the side of the stage before his first encore, i pointed out he had nowhere to disappear (as usually happens before an encore). just to prove me wrong, he pulled out the curtain behind the stage & hid behind it for a few seconds before emerging to wow us for another 30 minutes. all in all, super.

and since chumptastic is experiencing some downtime during the great move of 2005, i'll have to brag about our canadian celeb sighting this weekend: julian richings, who you may remember from such canadian films as hard core logo, and the red violin. apparently he also enjoys shopping at the dominion at king & liberty. who knew?

Blogger mitch thought it was important to say...

I wholeheartedly agree about the looper pedal! It made the whole experience brand new! I was also told that he has a new woman friend, so maybe she's a positive influence on his creativity...
