fashion tips, circa 1989

this is a post 17 years in the making...

my brother & his family (wife + 3 kids) are moving in with my parents this weekend while they save to build a house. so a few weeks ago, i quickly went through my old room to retrieve anything i want to keep intact. in the depths of my closet, i located a keepsake box (ok, an old adidas shoebox tied closed with a red ribbon). while the treasures are many*, my absolute favourite had to be this article in my high school newspaper, ENSSanity**, "october fashion tips for women".

some highlights:

  • "the look for this fall is 'classy paris' with oversized, revealing sweaters and light dressy blouses"
  • "the look that some will want to achieve with jackets is sophisticated with big buttons, chains and pockets"
  • "orange and black stirrup pants worn tight with an oversized sweater or coat looks original"
  • "if you require a different look such as an urban one, then you might go with tights that have a paisley or striped pattern of all the fall colours"
  • "suede shoes with buckles in leopard skin or browns and greens are the new trend in either laced or slip ons"

i think this article absolves me of any and all fashion crimes i may have committed in high school. although... there does not seem to be a mention of big bangs or vests... and in answer to your inevitable question. no, i will not post a picture of myself in high school.

* including one-half of my friendship dollar with tracy morgan... i hope you still have the other half, tracy!
**ENSS = East Northumberland Secondary School. also, i had nothing to do with the name of that publication.
