sleep tonight
i am currently tied to my computer waiting for my ohhhh soooo sloooow application to run some reports for me, so what better time to blog than when waiting for disease summary reports? answer: none.
i've recently welcomed rob into my home, and wow... even when you're not the one moving there is SO MUCH TO DO! there may have been slightly less had my previous roomate fully moved his stuff out... but i digress.
amy millan headlined one of the over the top festival shows at the poor alex on friday night, supported by new arts & crafts darlings the most serene republic and alt-country band about town jon-rae and the river. the most serene republic were a pleasant surprise... i enjoyed them quite a lot. i heard a lot of people complaining the sound quality (ie. WAY TOO LOUD), but as i had my ever-present earplugs with me i was sitting pretty. i've heard people describe them as broken social scene meets postal service, and that's not too far off. more postal service than broken social scene in my opinion, but not a bad analogy. oh, note to keyboard player: THAT is not rocking out. quit it.
on the way into the venue i overheard a group of people who just could not contain their excitement over the prospect of seeing jon rae and the river that evening. to those people i say... what the hell?? i'm actually a fan of country music (alt and otherwise), and this just made me want to knock myself unconscious as an escape mechanism. samey music and off-key singing do not a good band make in my opinion.
as for ms. amy "stars" millan, i was surprised at how incredibly different her solo stuff is from stars and BSS. it kept with the alt-country theme, and she definitely lived up to the promise she made before her first song, when she said "i want to put you all to bed". that she did. we were so soothed we had to leave early to avoid passing out on the subway. or maybe we're just old. whatever.
hey torontoites! there's a great show tomorrow at the gladstone: gentleman reg + the dating service!! you'd be crazy to pass this one up!! if you go, promise me you'll do the hand claps during 'give me the chance to fall'. i'm holding you to that.
report done! time to be worky.
