i declare this the weekend of robin!

as i browsed through my date book last week, i realized i hadn't had a solo weekend in toronto since the end of november!! frankly, i was shocked. so i decided to make the most of this one. things accomplished (please note the number of outings with robin, hence the title of this post):

  • going to see sideways & eating yummy banana & nutella crepes with robin on friday night
  • meeting my lovely friend keegan for a late lunch on saturday (avec too much wine) at terroni. i feel i must mention that it was absolutely sick out on saturday, as any of you in the t dot can attest to. when i got home from my 20 minute walk ice had formed ON MY CHEEKS!
  • seeing cuff the duke & joel plaskett emergency at lee's on saturday with robin (details below)
  • attempting to see a play on sunday with robin, only to find it was sold out (i still get culture points for trying, right?). therefore we wandered around queen street for a while, reading books for free instead of buying them (me) and buying socks (him).

i was excited to see joel plaskett this weekend, as i was very impressed the last time i saw him. this time around he was playing with cuff the duke, who i'd only seen once before in april with rob (who once again blogged about a show, while i was lazy). i know that my full attention wasn't on CTD on the night in question, but how did i forget that they were SO GOOD?! if i had remembered, i definitely would've gone to see them last weekend at the grad club. boo to me & my lousy memory. anywho, CTD totally kicked my ass & i suspect i will want to go see them during canadian music week in march.

joel was predictably good, and he played a few songs off his soon to be released album, la de da, which is out february 22. my personal fave (from the new stuff) was 'natural disaster', played solo on acoustic. the crowd at lee's was pretty hilarious; there were TONS of dudes yelling stuff out like: "less talking, more rocking!", "you tell 'em, plaskett" (when joel asked for more monitor), and "i like your music!". awesome. strangely enough, we also saw the least energetic crowd surfing (yes, crowd surfing) ever. oh so slowly, one guy rose up out of the crowd and was held up by his friends for about 20 seconds before being lowered just as slowly to the ground (head first, sadly).

one last thing... if you are in toronto on february 18th, you should definitely check out welcome to our living room at bloor cinema. sarah harmer, andre ethier, jason collett, gentleman reg & more. basically, if you're not there, you're a sucker.

oh, and tonight i'm going to see metric with who else but... robin!
