weekend away...
i’m not entirely sure why, but i always say that i love taking the train. in theory, it is a lovely oasis of calm. you get to turn off your phone, watch the countryside zoom by, and catch up on your reading (or napping) if you are so inclined. i did say in theory, right?
i headed home to visit my family this weekend, and as i was not able to scam a ride, i resorted to good old via. or, i should say, reliably crappy via. as seems to be the usual, we left toronto a good 30 minutes behind schedule. c’est la vie, right? but then… then! just as we went through trenton, the train got stopped due to “congestion”. (stupid CN strike.) should have been no trouble, since i was going to trenton. but, since there was no scheduled stop in trenton at that time, i got to sit on the train for 90 minutes (in view of the station, no less!) while my dad sat waiting for me in belleville. so, all told, my 2 hour trip took me 4 hours.
but when i got off the train, things improved. i got to see my grandma, who is doing remarkably well. she was in bad shape for a long time, so it was really good to see her looking better. she’s not quite as good as new, but she is getting better every day.
another highlight of my weekend: meeting my mom’s new pug puppy, daisy. she’s about 3 months old, and an absolute ball of energy. most of the pictures i took were just a blur. but i managed to get a couple of good ones…

other highlights: the best pizza in the world, sleeping for 9 1/2 (!!!) hours, and getting a book called ‘the soup bible’ to further fuel my addiction to making soups.
all in all, good weekend.
