clean slate

many things in my life are changing now, and i am resolved to make them all as positive as possible. one of the changes i've wanted to make for a while is to increase my fitness level, and not only for the obvious positive physical changes. when my grandma started getting really sick, and when she eventually died, it kind of woke me up a bit to the kind of life that i want to look back on when i reach her age. she really did live an amazing life filled with family & friends, and i will be lucky to have the same. so, in order to reach that ripe old age and considering heart trouble runs in my family a bit, i decided i needed to really work on my cardiovascular fitness.

to this end, i've been fairly dedicated to this task over the past few months, improving my diet and general fitness. i've been working to cut out refined sugar and flour and salt, and have been doing yoga & cardio routinely several times a week. as my now too big for me pants can attest, ive managed to do quite a good job. so, with my base fitness level increased, it was on to my next challenge.

segue to my first night of a 10-week running clinic last night.

it was an overall positive experience. as i hadn't run since doing laps in high school gym class, i was very pleasantly surprised to find that i could run 2 km no problem. i also met a few nice people, and had a nice chat while running. my legs were a bit achey last night, but i've woken up to find them feeling fine today. so, all in all, it's been a good week for fitness. my goal (and my instructor's advice) is to run twice more before next monday's class, and i am resolved to do so.
