fire safety is good!

but before i get to that, i've been having the most hellish 2 days that are really truly making me question why the fuck i'm going to put myself through doing a phd. enough of that whining...

i was walking home today & noticed a ladder extending from the upper balcony of a house to the ground, tethered at each end. it was intended for use as (i can only assume) a fire escape. problems? not only was the ladder made out of rope and wood (yeah, that's safe) it was the tiniest ladder i have ever seen in my life!! i swear it was no more than 10 inches wide!! there is no possibility that an adult human could climb up or down this thing... maybe a child, but probably not. i think a trained monkey would be able to do it though...
